What are Contacts and Companies in Cirkus

Creating Companies and Contacts in Cirkus helps you to store and track all customer, supplier or other contact information in one place.

With customisable fields for contact details, status, priority and templates, the data points can be configured for how your company works.

Comments, Activity, mentions and file sharing allow collaboration across the team.
Cirkus Projects can be linked to a Company and/or Contact.
Projects can be easily listed or searched by Company.
Companies and Contacts are created at Workspace level.
Contacts can be linked to a Company, but it’s not mandatory.
Companies and Contacts are fully visible and edible by Workspace Admins and Members, but only the linked name on the project is visible to Limited users.

Let’s see how to get setup


Create a New Company 

  1. Log in to Cirkus on the web or through the mac or iOS apps. 
  2. Sign in to your account as a Workspace Admin
  3. Click on the Workspace tab in the sidebar.
  4. Double click the Workspace where you want to create the Company.
  5. Click on the Companies tab
  6. Type the name of the Company and click the [Add Company] button
  7. In the New Company Sheet, optionally select a Company Template (which will populate fields), Description or add files.
  8. Click OK or [Add Company] on web.

The Company is created and is selected in the list and loaded in the Inspector.

Manage Companies

In the Company Inspector, the Standard and Custom Fields can be managed , company logo edited, and Activity, Files and Comments can be used to collaborate.

Double click on the Company to access the Company Details

The Info, Comments, Files, Contacts and Projects tabs are available.
The Info tab contains the fields and custom fields
The Comments tab shows all the history of Comments and Activity on the Company - use the Detailed view to see more information.
The Contacts tab lists all the Contacts associated with this Company
The Projects tab shows all the Projects linked to this Company.(See how to link a Project to a Company or Contact)

Create a New Contact

Contacts are also created in the Workspace.
They can be created in the Workspace > Contacts tab, or in the Workspace > Company > Contacts tab.

  1. Log in to Cirkus on the web or through the mac or iOS apps. 
  2. Sign in to your account as a Workspace Admin
  3. Click on the Workspace tab in the sidebar.
  4. Double click the Workspace where you want to create the Contacts. (or if the Contact is in a Company, navigate to Workspace >Companies > Double Click on the Company )
  5. Click on the Contacts tab
  6. Enter the name of the new Contact and click [ Add Contact]
  7. In the Sheet that appears, optionally select a Contact Template, add Description, Files and Contact information
  8. The contact will be created in the section for their Company, or at the top of the list if they do not have a Company assigned

Manage Contacts

In the Contact Inspector, the Standard and Custom Fields can be managed and Activity, Files and Comments can be used to collaborate.

Double click on the Contact to access the Contact Details

The Info, Comments, Files, and Projects tabs are available.
The Info tab contains the fields and custom fields

The Files tab contains a list of any attached files
The Comments tab shows all the history of Comments and Activity on the Contact - use the Detailed view to see more information.
The Projects tab shows all the Projects linked to this Contact.(See how to link a Project to a Company or Contact)

Working with Contacts and Companies

Collaborating on Companies with Files and Comments

The activity on a Company or Contact is tracked in the activity log, along with comments, reactions, @mentions and replies.
The creator of the Contact or Company, and those mentioned on comments will receive and inbox/email/push notification for the comment.
Notifications can be configured by each receiver in their Preferences >Notifications tab > Company & Contacts section.

It’s possible to add files directly to a Contact or Company, and to embed files in comments

Inactive Companies and Contacts

If you are no longer working with a Company or Contact, you can make them Inactive , by toggling the Active checkbox.
When making a Company inactive will also make the associated Contacts Inactive.
Inactive Contacts are not available to link to Projects, but their previous links will not be removed.
Inactive Companies and Contacts can be accessed in the Inactive filter at the bottom of the list, and toggled Active again.

Linking your Projects to Contacts and Companies

For new and existing Projects you can now link these Projects to Companies and Contacts.
This is available in the New Project Sheet, and when editing existing Projects.
When the Project is created, the Company and Contact information is shown in the Project Inspector and Details and can be previewed using the (i) link.

These fields can be made mandatory or shown or hidden in certain conditions using Project Templates.
To see the Projects linked to each Company or Contact in the Company or Contact Details > Projects tab, where grouping, filters and schedule views are also available to see the full overview of deliverables for any client in list and schedule format

In Advanced Search you can search for Projects by Company or Contact fields.

You can also search for Companies and Contacts in the quick search box on all platforms.
